Before the construction of the hotels, the inhabitants of Coche worked mainly in the fishing industry.There is an old salt mine on Coche, as well as a shell cemetery left by a factory that used to run the pearl business on the island. There are several drivers who can offer you a tour around the island at very low rates. If you want to take the tour, you can book it at the hotel reception, or at the beach. The excursion lasts about two hours and is really worthwhile.
